Pregnancy

Think you are pregnant?

Is your period late? Not getting your period is often the first sign of pregnancy. If you are just a few days late, you may want to wait a few more days to see whether your period is just a little late this month.

How do your breasts feel? Breast soreness, sensitivity, and / or heaviness (full-feeling) are often early signs of pregnancy. If soreness, sensitivity and heaviness are routine pre-menstrual (PMS) symptoms for you, it may be hard to tell if you are pregnant. If the symptoms are more noticeable than normal or last more than two weeks, they can be a sign of pregnancy.

Do you feel like taking a nap in the afternoon? Many girls experience fatigue (exhaustion or tiredness) in early pregnancy. Fatigue can also be caused by poor nighttime sleep, emotional problems (such as depression) and the overly busy schedule of teenagers. If you’re not pregnant and your fatigue continues, talk to your doctor.

Are you nauseated? It is very common for pregnant girls to feel nauseated when they haven’t eaten and their stomach is empty. For some girls, they may experience morning sickness that can really be every minute of the day sickness. If you can’t keep down liquids or are feeling lightheaded, call your doctor.

Are you sensitive to odors? Many girls are sensitive to odors during pregnancy.

Have you gained weight in the last month? Most pregnant girls gain a few pounds during the first month of pregnancy because of the additional weight of the fetus, placenta, and fluid build-up. Pregnant girls continue to gain weight during the entire pregnancy. Weight before pregnancy: Normal Weight – 25-35 pounds. Underweight 15-25 pounds. Overweight 28-40 pounds.

Even if there are a few of the common signs and symptoms that you may be pregnant, it definitely doesn’t mean you are pregnant. When a girls suspects that she is pregnant, she should visit a doctor as soon as possible. Confirmation from the doctor will be essential in determining what’s next.
